WRITING EXERCISES BASED ON A YEAR OF WEEKLY WRITING PROMPTS

Four years ago I moved to a new city. I knew no one except the person I moved to the city to be closer to. After three years I decided to be proactive. I visited the nearby senior citizen center and asked about writing opportunities because I always tell myself when I’m in a predicament remember what it is I can do. June of 2025 I launched a drop-in writing group, A Gathering of Storytellers and June of 2026 we celebrated a year of writing based on prompts that I made up, researched on line, created from poetry I love, etc. Many of the ideas came from A Gathering of Storytellers workshops that I co-taught with Lori Young-Williams at various venues which included Minnesota State University Moorhead; the Mississippi River Valley Poets, Mankato, MN; True Color Bookstore, Minneapolis; University of MN Women of Color Workshop, and The Loft Literary Center.

I have created a new page: Writing Exercises Based on a Year of Weekly Writing Prompts. I am including my ten/15 minute writing exercises with little to no revisions (at least for now), and links to my resources.
