Chicana Without Apology, Eden Torres

“When we learn and share our documented and oral history, we can release our anger and tears with confidence—with the support of our ancestors, with the knowledge that we are neither crazy nor alone, not stupid or out of control.  Insidious forms of oppression have brought us to this place and continue to exist, and we have a right to be furious about that.  With these feelings no longer forbidden, we become eligible for pure joy.  This leads to more appropriate emotional responses to the events of day-to-day life, and lessens the desire to numb ourselves with various addictions.”
