{"id":692,"date":"2015-05-01T17:30:47","date_gmt":"2015-05-01T21:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.sherryquanlee.com\/?p=692"},"modified":"2015-05-01T17:30:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T21:30:47","slug":"writers-hesitation-or-im-not-blocked-im-lazy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.sherryquanlee.com\/?p=692","title":{"rendered":"WRITER&#8217;S HESITATION or I&#8217;m not &#8220;blocked,&#8221; I&#8217;m lazy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Often it&#8217;s been said that there is no such thing as writer&#8217;s block.\u00a0 I tend to agree.\u00a0 However, personally, I have &#8220;writer&#8217;s hesitation.&#8221;\u00a0 [I know, the period inside the quotation looks weird, but I&#8217;ve been told by experts that&#8217;s the way it is.] I hesitate for various reasons, but most recently, if I want to be truthful, because I am lazy (not all the time, and not about everything).<\/p>\n<p>I want to write a poem.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been awhile since I wrote a poem.\u00a0 Specifically, maybe a year or five or eight.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t count years or poems, it&#8217;s just that I&#8217;ve been writing prose.\u00a0 But the poem I want to write is someplace outside of myself.<\/p>\n<p>The poem is gurgling, wants to be set free; but, I won&#8217;t release it.\u00a0 Freeing it would take time and effort.\u00a0 What is beneath the surface?\u00a0 Something so big I can&#8217;t even name it.\u00a0 Something larger than myself.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s the point.\u00a0 I&#8217;m 68 years old.\u00a0 For the past thirty something years I&#8217;ve been writing about me (at least recently I&#8217;ve managed to write about me in terms of not only intersectionality, but also in connection to local and national historical events), but I want to move beyond myself, discover more than my own humanity.<\/p>\n<p>The enormity of knowing what to write about has me cowering in a corner (okay, on the couch watching Netflix).\u00a0 It takes effort to focus.
