{"id":373,"date":"2012-03-13T11:27:32","date_gmt":"2012-03-13T15:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.sherryquanlee.com\/?p=373"},"modified":"2012-05-16T22:10:13","modified_gmt":"2012-05-17T02:10:13","slug":"can-i-find-time-to-write","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.sherryquanlee.com\/?p=373","title":{"rendered":"Can I Find Time to Write?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March 13, 2012<\/p>\n<p>Last night I participated in a time management workshop for artists.*\u00a0 The last exercise was to fill in the blanks on a weekly planner, hour by hour, day by day for a week.<\/p>\n<p>I started with what I knew for sure:<em><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Good Morning America<\/em> five mornings a week (Monday through Friday) followed by social media (time for e-mails, Facebook, Linked-In, etc.).<em>&#8211;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Bachelor<\/em> Monday evenings and <em>Castle<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><em>Modern Family<\/em> Wednesday evenings.<\/li>\n<li><em>The Mentalist<\/em> Thursday evenings, sometimes.<\/li>\n<li><em>American Idol<\/em> when I remember and <em>Dancing with the Stars.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Evening news beginning as early as 5 p.m. and continuing through 6:30.<\/li>\n<li>Later in the evening <em>Nightline<\/em>, more news, and <em>Jimmy Kimmel<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Reading or crossword puzzles before bedtime, bedtime as late as 12:30 p.m. or 1 or 2 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>Boyfriend allotted 8-16 hours on some weekends.<\/li>\n<li>8 hours one day a week for shopping with my sister<\/li>\n<li>Sunday afternoons for girlfriends or mentoring\/consulting.<\/li>\n<li>8-16 hours a week for literary editing (when I have a contract)<\/li>\n<li>30 hours a week for job hunting.\u00a0 Squeezed into that 30 hours workshops, such as <em>Time Management for Creative People,<\/em> blogging, etc. to help me become self-employed (i.e. earning a liveable income as writer\/teacher\/mentor\/literary editor) by July (these 30 hours overlap with the morning social media hours, so basically 20 hours or less)!<\/li>\n<li>15-20 hours a week for cooking and eating!<\/li>\n<li>7 hours some weeks for housecleaning<\/li>\n<li>-etc., etc., etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My \u201cS.M.A.R.T.\u201d goal created for the <em>Time Management for Creative People<\/em> workshop was to have a draft of my memoir, Love <em>Imagined<\/em>, to my editor by July and to my publisher by September, yes, of this year, 2012.\u00a0\u00a0 I wonder, what do I give up to find time to write?\u00a0 We were told not to borrow time from evening sleep time.<\/p>\n<p>It will have to be the news, which is probably good.\u00a0 Perhaps I will not start and end so many days in a funk!<\/p>\n<p>*<em>Time Management for Creative People<\/em> sponsored by Springboard for the Arts (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.springboardforthearts.org\/about-us\">http:\/\/www.springboardforthearts.org\/about-us<\/a>) and Hennepin County Libraries (http:\/\/www.hclib.org\/pub\/events\/)<\/p>\n<p>Sherry Quan Lee<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 13, 2012 Last night I participated in a time management workshop for artists.*\u00a0 The last exercise was to fill in the blanks on a weekly planner, hour by hour, day by day for a week.
